Two full professors within the Department of Organization Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for two Full Professors in Organizational Change in a Transitioning Society and Organizing in a Network Society within the Department of Organization Sciences.

Your function

The appointee will be expected to combine research with teaching, social impact and management activities. To fulfil the requirements of the position, the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present on a regular basis, to actively participate in the research activities of the department, to contribute to teaching, social impact and management tasks, and to establish and maintain broad links across the Faculty, University and societal stakeholders. Specifically, we are looking for candidates with expertise in either organizational change in the context of societal transitions and/ or processes of organizing in the context of an increasingly interconnected world.

The Vrije Universiteit works with career paths in the domains of research, education, and valorization. A professor is expected to excel in one of these core tasks of the university.

Your duties

  • conducting research at high international standards of quality, including high impact publishing and contributing to societal impact
  • undertaking coaching and mentoring responsibilities of early career colleagues and students 
  • leading the OCTS or ONS cluster and actively contributing to the management of the ORG department and the Faculty of Social Sciences
  • supervising PhD students and being involved in the Graduate School of Social Sciences 
  • acquiring external funding, submitting applications for financing research and valorisation activities
  • teaching in the ORG programs, including leading Executive Education offerings 
  • actively promoting the academic reputation of the department by leading in international research co-operation, delivering keynotes, reviewing and editing for top academic journals in the field
  • contributing to the work and life of the department

Your profile

Requirements  

  • A PhD in Social Sciences, showing affinity and familiarity with Organization Studies in the broadest sense, and with organizational change in relation to a transitioning society and/ or organizing processes in relation to an interconnected society in particular.
  • Demonstrable experience as a servant leader in complex academic organizations, as well as proven social, organizational and management skills in teaching and research. The candidate has a collaborative and connecting leadership style.
  • An outstanding and inspirational research vision and a strong reputation in the international scientific community of Organization Studies, as evidenced by successful engagement with international networks and projects in this field. 
  • Excellent publications record and a portfolio of societally relevant research projects that show a clear affinity with organizational change in a transitioning society and/ or organizing processes in an interconnected world. 
  • Research leadership as evidenced by significant contributions to establishing and leading research groups and engagement in mentoring of early career researchers. 
  • The ambition and proven leadership in (co-)creating societal impact and proven ability to engage with diverse societal stakeholders. 
  • A track record in successfully obtaining national and international research grants and other external funding from the industry and societal partners. 
  • The proven ability to successfully recruit and supervise PhD students. The chair involves staff members in the supervision of PhD researchers. 
  • A vision for and experience with developing innovative teaching methods and an outstanding performance in the design and delivery of education at undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and executive education levels, preferably in courses on organization theory and organizational change. The candidate recognizes the importance of teaching and supports staff members in their teaching tasks. 
  • The willingness and capacity to contribute to the work and life of the department, demonstrated in proven good academic citizenship and in initiatives to create a friendly, pleasant and inspiring work environment. 
  • The ability to teach in Dutch and English at the C1 level or equivalent, or the willingness to acquire this level in the first two years.

What do we offer?

  • a salary of minimum € 6.648,00 (H2) and maximum € 9.680,00 (H2) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Professor 2. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for 0,8-1 FTE. Your employment contract will initially last 18 months. Afterwards, there is a prospect of a permanent contract.

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • contribution to commuting expenses
  • solid pension scheme (ABP)
  • optional model for designing a personalized benefits package
