Welcome to the Department of University Relations & Fundraising

Strengthening and expanding the ties of the VU Amsterdam community – that’s the goal of the Department of University Relations & Fundraising (DURF) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
We are the prime location for external relations, external partnerships and philanthropic fundraising. We enter into meaningful relationships with donors, corporate partners and other stakeholders. We maintain contact with VU Amsterdam alumni, who make up a diverse worldwide network of more than 150,000 graduates, and we coordinate all the activities of the VU Association. We also organise university-wide events, like the Dies Natalis (Foundation Day). Thanks to our fundraising activities, we help to finance the VU’s outstanding education, innovative research and state-of-the-art facilities.

This is how we build a VU community that is much broader than current students and staff: a worldwide network of people and organisations who feel connected with each other, with shared values and a shared passion for VU Amsterdam’s ambitions.
