VU application: process, screening and participation

The application process at VU Amsterdam consists of several steps.

Our application process

As soon as we receive your application, usually consisting of a resume and cover letter, we immediately send you an automatic confirmation of your application. We aim to respond to you as soon as possible. Normally this happens within two weeks after the closing date of the vacancy.
In order to process your application, we ask you to use the Apply button. Applications received by e-mail will not be considered.
A selection committee evaluates if you meet the requirements of the position. They invite candidates for an interview.
Job interviews usually happen at a VU location, but sometimes also via a video call. VU Amsterdam uses MS Teams for this purpose.

Pre-employment screening

VU Amsterdam greatly values integrity and safety. That is why we perform a pre-employment screening for new employees. We always ask for a diploma. You do not have to send it in with your application: this will come later in the process.
Depending on the position, we can additionally ask for references, a Declaration of Conduct (VOG) and/or assessment. For knowledge security reasons, we may also evaluate public social media accounts and public statements.
The vacancy ad explains which pre-employment screening instrument(s) are deployed.

Internal candidates

In case of equal suitability, we give preference to internal candidates. This is how we invest in growth and development of our people.
But we value your talent and experience even if you do not work at VU Amsterdam yet. For a definitive decision, we always carefully consider all candidates' suitability.

BIG registration

ACTA Is the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam. ACTA educates students to become the dentists of the future, and in addition is a specialized treatment centre for dentistry. Are you going to work at ACTA? Then a BIG (Professions in Individual Health Care) registration as a dentist or dental assistant is required.
