VU application: process, screening and participation

The VU application process contains several components.

Our application process

As soon as we receive your application, usually in the form of a CV and covering letter, we will send you an automatic confirmation of your application. Our aim is to give you an initial response to your application as soon as possible. This will normally be within two weeks of the closing date for the vacancy.

Please use the apply button to process your application. Please note that applications sent by e-mail will not be processed.

A selection committee will assess whether you meet the requirements of the job. They will invite you for an interview.

Interviews usually take place at the VU campus, but sometimes via video interview. For this purpose, the VU uses MS Teams.

Pre-employment screening

Integrity is fundamental to working for a better world. That is why we conduct pre-employment screening for new employees. We always ask for a diploma. You don't have to send it in with your application - we'll ask for it at a later stage in the process.

Depending on the position, we may also ask you to provide references and/or a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).

Knowledge security

International cooperation, attracting scientific talent from around the world and academic freedom are important to us. The VU has a knowledge security policy to make international scientific cooperation as secure as possible. This is described in the framework and enshrined in a process that also applies to the appointment of new staff.

Please note that following your application, checks may be carried out based on the VU Knowledge Security Policy above. This may include public source research or reference checks.

Internal candidate

If an internal candidate applies at the same time as you, preference will be given to the internal candidate if they are equally qualified. We want to encourage growth and development within our organisation by providing opportunities for our current employees to take on new challenges.

Even if you are new to VU, we value your talent and experience. We always carefully consider the suitability of all candidates before making a final decision.

Candidates with an occupational disability

At VU, we believe that our differences make us stronger. Everyone has their own perspective and talents. Do you have an occupational disability and want to work with us towards a better world? Our Participation Service Point can support you.

BIG register (BRIC)

ACTA is the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam. ACTA educates students to become the dentists of the future and is also a specialist treatment centre for dentistry. Are you going to work at ACTA? Then a BIG registration as a dentist or dental assistant is required.
