The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at VU invites applications for two positions of Assistant(/Associate) Professor in Public Administration. In this role, you will teach primarily in the Governance and Organization bachelor and the Public Administration master. You also contribute to the research program New Public Governance (NPG). The mission of NPG is to advance our theoretical and empirical knowledge of contemporary governance practices, critically reflect on those practices, improve them, and set the agenda on further big questions arising from the academic governance debate. In our mission we emphasize societal impact in research and teaching, and the underlying values of responsibility, openness and personal involvement.
We are looking for expertise in the areas of governance of security, quality of governance, welfare governance, or regulatory governance.
We offer positions in a lively and engaged department that is dedicated to outstanding education, research, and societal impact in public governance. At a faculty level, we offer a strong interdisciplinary research master program on approaching societal problems with computational social science. Professional support for the acquisition of research subsidies is available through the faculty’s research institute and the departmental AI and Digital Governance Lab. At the inter-faculty level we benefit from thematic cross-faculty collaborations around the VU theme ‘Governance for Society’ and more specific themes, such as security, welfare, care and migration.

A position in a highly committed team within a societally-engaged university and a vibrant international city. The job profiles are based on the university job ranking system Assistant Professor (UFO profiel Universitair Docent 1 or 2) and respectively, Associate Professor (UFO profiel UHD 2) and are vacant for 0,8 - 1.0 FTE.
On a full-time basis the remuneration, dependent on relevant experience, for an assistant professor ranges between a minimum gross monthly salary of € 4,492 (scale 11.0) and a maximum € 6,986 (scale 12.10). For an Associate Professor, it ranges between € 6.224 to € 7.575 (scale 13). Foreign candidates may be entitled to a 30% tax break, upon approval of the Dutch tax agency. The initial employment contract is for 12 months and will be changed into a permanent contract if you perform well.
