Educationalist – School of Business and Economics

Make an impact on the future of higher education through innovation and collaboration.

Your function

At the School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, education is about more than lectures and exams. With five Bachelor’s and eleven full-time Master’s programmes, we are shaping the next generation of global thinkers and leaders. Our teaching is guided by Active Blended Learning (ABL), a dynamic approach that blends on-campus learning with smart use of online tools and EdTech.

To support this mission, we are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Educationalist to join our SBE Center for Teaching and Learning.

SBE’s Center for Teaching and Learning’s goal is to intentionally combine on-campus teaching with online opportunities—including the use of educational technology—to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Our team (3 educationalists and 4 student assistants, coordinated by the Director of Education) supports the implementation of both SBE’s and VU’s educational vision by: providing hands-on support to lecturers, assisting programme directors and course coordinators, and maintaining an overview of good practices and common challenges within SBE.

The educationalist plays a key role in advancing active blended learning at SBE. This includes advising programme directors and lecturers, leading workshops, supervising student assistants, and supporting the practical implementation of blended learning strategies.

  • provide technical advice on the use, implementation, and evaluation of educational technology tools (e.g., Canvas, Panopto, FeedbackFruits, Perusall, Mentimeter, AnnotatePRO, etc.). The role involves helping lecturers effectively use and integrate learning technologies to create engaging, impactful, and pedagogically sound learning environments.
  • give pedagogical advice on instructional design (e.g., identifying learning needs, developing learning activities/materials and/or to increase engagement and impact, designing the learning structure and sequence of the course, reviewing assessment tools)
  • teacher professionalization (e.g., operationalize the active blended learning approach, VU Mixed Classrooms approach, implement ways to provide effective formative feedback)
  • explore new or novel educational approaches that are applicable within the SBE-specific context

In short, You will help foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
