Team members Student Wellbeing Point

Do you like supporting students and promoting student wellbeing? Are you comfortable providing an empathetic ear and connecting with others in a friendly, approachable way? We are looking for Point Peers to join our team.

Your function

The Student Wellbeing Point

The Student Wellbeing Point originally opened its doors as a student-led initiative: for students by students, without appointment, and completely anonymous. Since then, the SWPoint has become a fixed staple at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and continues to serve students as a fixed service. At the Student Wellbeing Point, trained students will help you with wellbeing-related questions or by offering a listening ear. In our informal living room on campus you can find a safe space to take a breather, find more information about other VU services (e.g. the Student Psychological Counselors), and/or have a helping conversation with a cup of tea. With this low-threshold approach, we hope to help connect you to the right services or communities.

Job description

As a Point Peer, you are passionate about student wellbeing and motivated to advocate for it. You are empathetic and compassionate, able to actively listen without judgment, and confident engaging with students one-on-one as well as during group events or outreach moments. As a representative of the Student Wellbeing Point, you contribute to creating a safe and welcoming environment for students, help them navigate wellbeing services at the VU and externally, and increase awareness about student wellbeing at VU. The role requires self-awareness, professionalism, initiative, and the ability to communicate boundaries clearly while helping maintain a supportive environment for both students and colleagues.

Your duties

  • Engage in helping conversations with students about wellbeing-related topics, both in person and digitally via the live chat, email, and DM.

  • Create and hold a safe space at the Student Wellbeing Point.

  • Provide information about and refer students to wellbeing services at the VU and externally.

  • Be an active ambassador of the Student Wellbeing Point by being visible on campus during events and promotional activities.

  • Create social media content that helps increase awareness about student wellbeing and the Student Wellbeing Point.

Your profile

  • You are registered as a full-time Bachelor or Master student at VU during the academic year 2026-27, and ideally are planning to remain so for the subsequent academic year (2027-2028)
  • You are well acquainted with university life and the VU campus—this means you are a second-year student or have previous (VU) study experience
  • You have excellent command of the Dutch and English language, both verbally and in writing
  • You have developed enough self-awareness to communicate your boundaries clearly with others

As a university, we strive for equal opportunities for all, recognising that diversity takes many forms. We believe that diversity in all its complexity is invaluable for the quality of our teaching, research and service. We are always looking for talent with diverse backgrounds and experiences. This also means that we are committed to creating an inclusive community so that we can use diversity as an asset.

We realise that each individual brings a unique set of skills, expertise and mindset. Therefore we are happy to invite anyone who recognises themselves in the profile to apply, even if you do not meet all the requirements.

What do we offer?

A challenging position in a socially engaged organisation. At VU Amsterdam, you contribute to education, research and service for a better world. And that is valuable. So in return for your efforts, we offer you:

  • a salary € 3.057,00 (Scale 7) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Student Affairs Officer 3.
  • a position for 6-8 hours a week. Your employment contract will initially last 1 year and will start on 17 August 2026.

You have no other position at VU with a contract (unless it is as an “on-call worker”/0 hour contract)

We also offer you attractive fringe benefits and regulations. Some examples:

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • discount on (and occasionally exclusive access to) theater performances and courses at the Griffioen Cultural Center
  • a wide range of sports facilities which staff may use at a modest charge
  • space for personal development
