SBE CTL - Student Assistant Position

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the School of Business and Economics VU is a dynamic advisory and support team driving the implementation of Activating Blended Learning.

Your function

Our team (4 educationalists and 4 student assistants) is dedicated to modernizing and enhancing education through innovative tools and approaches. We are currently seeking proactive and detail-oriented student assistants to join our team for one day a week, starting from September 1. 

Your tasks will include: 

  • AI tool development: Support the extension and maintenance of AI‑powered tools, contributing to both technical improvements and product thinking. Gain hands‑on experience working with a real production‑level AI application in a collaborative team.
  • Educational support: Assist with tasks related to online and blended education, including integrating GenAI‑driven tools and workflows, and supporting the recording, editing, and directing of knowledge clips.
  • Enhance the clarity, structure, and visual quality of educational slide decks.
  • Edit teacher‑recorded videos to improve pacing, clarity, and educational value.  

Your profile

The skills we are looking for 

  • Someone with a growth mindset and the drive to figure things out. If you are excited about AI and want to build real things, we want to hear from you.
  • Someone with critical thinking skills, academic integrity, and a strong moral compass to ensure the responsible and ethical use of tech/GenAI.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work independently
  • Practical and flexible in handling a variety of tasks
  • Responsible and reliable, able to meet commitments
  • Interested in and experience with video production (OBS) and editing (Adobe Premiere, Adobe Podcast)
  • Currently enrolled as a Bachelor or Master student at a Dutch University
  • Programming experience in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, especially Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Ability to read and understand existing codebases with guidance
  • (Would be nice) Experience with Next.js, FastAPI, or similar full-stack frameworks
  • (Would be nice) Prior exposure to databases (PostgreSQL) or cloud platforms
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Azure ecosystem (like Azure Speech)

What do we offer?

  • a salary between €3,084 and €3,141  (SA) gross per month, based on a full-time position. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for 0.2 FTE. Your employment contract will initially last 10 months.

  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
