Relationship manager major donors

Are you an experienced relationship manager with understanding of wealthy individuals and successful entrepreneurs? If you know what drives them and how to connect their ambitions to the impact of VU Amsterdam, we would like to get in touch with you.

Your function

Your position
As a Relationship Manager Major Givers, you build sustainable and meaningful relationships between VU Amsterdam and the outside world. You will focus in particular on alumni, wealthy individuals, successful entrepreneurs, social partners and other relations who can contribute to the ambitions of VU Amsterdam through their expertise, network, involvement or resources.

You are curious about the person and organization behind the relationship. What has shaped someone? What are their interests, ambitions and networks? Which social issues are important to them? And what are the opportunities to make an impact together with VU Amsterdam?

You can connect these insights to the ambitions and expertise of VU Amsterdam. You know how to connect these drivers to the ambitions of VU Amsterdam and to concrete opportunities to contribute to education, research and social impact. You develop relationships from first acquaintance to lasting involvement and ensure a professional, personal and careful level of service.

Many of these relations already have a special bond with VU Amsterdam, for example as an alumnus. You know how to deepen that bond and build it into a lasting relationship.

What will you do?

  • You will develop and maintain a portfolio of potential and existing major donors and other strategically relevant external relations, with an emphasis on HNWIs, successful entrepreneurs, alumni and social partners.
  • You identify and qualify new prospects and map out their interests, network, background and giving motivation.
  • You will have personal conversations and build long-term relationships with potential and existing donors.
  • You connect the interests and ambitions of relations to suitable opportunities to contribute to VU Amsterdam.
  • You will work together with scientists, faculties, administrators, alumni and colleagues within DURF on appealing propositions and cases for support.
  • You will guide the process from relationship building and gift intention to the realization and stewardship of a large gift.
  • You ensure that the right people are involved at the right time and monitor progress, agreements, interests and coherence.
  • You ensure personal and appropriate attention for donors, even after a donation.
  • You keep the internal organization well connected and ensure that agreements with external relations are carefully followed up internally.
  • You carefully record relationships, contact moments and opportunities and actively manage the development of your portfolio.

Your profile

Who are you?

  • You feel at home in the dynamics of a university and know how to find your way in a complex organization. You involve the right people at the right time, can connect different interests and move easily between external relations and internal stakeholders.

What do you bring?

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in relationship management, preferably with high-net-worth individuals and/or successful entrepreneurs.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining long-term, personal relationships.

  • You are organizationally sensitive, careful and result-oriented.
