Are you an entrepreneurial data scientist capable of finding innovative solutions to complex challenges?

Your function

You will use your in-depth knowledge of statistics, algorithms, data mining and visualization techniques to generate new strategic insights for business needs. You can move quickly to validate new ideas and analyses via techniques such as rapid prototyping and minimum viable products. This will often require you to take a leading role in exploring the possibilities of AI, data and analytics and to bring together experts from different teams and disciplines from across the university. Where needed, you will research and implement advanced techniques and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness of our data-analyses.

You will join a new data, AI and innovation team and will collaborate with machine learning engineers, data engineers and software engineers as well as experts from education and research domains. With you joining the team, we can have a real impat on education and research!

Your duties

  • You build data-driven models to answer business questions in smaller and larger experiments
  • You identify valuable internal and external data sources and work to make them usable
  • You proactively look for relevant patterns in existing datawarehouses and largedatasets to generate valuable insights for decision makers
  • You keep up with new technologies and methods and know how to apply and share these
  • You collaborate with technical and domain experts from across the university to develop, implement and refine your analyses

Technical skills

  • You have knowledge of AI-related libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch and scikit-learn and are able to work with large datasets and related technologies such as Hadoop & Spark
  • You can demonstrate experience with various statistical and data mining techniques, such as GLM/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, hierarchical clustering, deep learning, CNNs and RNNs
  • You can efficiently and effectively apply AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning and neural networks in the development, training, evaluation and tuning of models
  • You are familiar with the ethics and societal impact of AI, including detection of bias
  • You are able to use cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud and their AI services

  • a salary of minimum € 3.378,00 (Scale 10) and maximum € 5.331,00 (Scale 10) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Engineering and Application Manager 3. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for at least 0.8 FTE. Your employment contract will initially last 1 year. Afterwards, there is a prospect of a permanent contract.

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.

The primary goal is to jointly develop and apply responsible AI solutions that add concrete value and create a positive impact in education, research, and operations. From the new data, AI, and innovation team, you will contribute to this on behalf of IT.

Information Technology
We at Information Technology (IT) have the responsibility of ensuring a worry-free digital environment for researchers, students and staff. We facilitate teaching and research with IT resources, advise on IT products and services, and keep the application landscape for work and study up-to-date. We ensure that the university’s IT facilities are up and running 24/7.

At the same time, we focus on the future of digital – everything from the smart campus and cyber security to open science and artificial intelligence. Along with the faculties and service departments, we look ahead to ask: how can we prepare now for tomorrow’s questions?
