The Athena Institute of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam is looking for two motivated and dedicated postdoctoral researchers in the Holomicrobiome project. In this position, you will focus on the governance of mission-oriented innovation for food, health and environmental system transitions.
The Holomicrobiome project is funded by the Dutch national Growth Fund and seeks to develop microbiome innovations that can help accelerate transitions towards sustainable and healthy food systems, health systems and environmental systems and stimulate economic development. At the Athena Institute, we are involved in studying and supporting the governance of such mission-oriented projects.
Questions that arise are: How can we understand complex transition processes, and how can mission-oriented innovation help govern them? How can we facilitate transformative learning between different scientists and societal stakeholders? And how can we monitor the impact of mission-oriented innovation projects?
Your duties
Position 1: Living Labs for mission-oriented innovation
As a team, we will work on setting up and running Living Labs in which scientists and societal stakeholders (including private sector) will shape the future of the Dutch microbiome innovation systems. As postdoc, you will play a key role in this task. Based on your interest and experience, you will develop and execute, in collaboration with the other team members, studies on how we can best set-up, facilitate and investigate multi-stakeholder processes in Living Labs that seek to contribute to mission-driven innovation in food, health and environmental systems. In particular, in this position you aim to bring into practice transdisciplinary and action-oriented approaches to help understand and support mission-oriented innovation. Concretely, your tasks are:
Position 2: Evaluating, monitoring and learning for mission-oriented innovation
As a team, we will develop and implement reflexive monitoring frameworks to assess the transition process and the transformative impacts of the project as well as the transition management efforts of the Initiative. As postdoc, you will play a key role in this task. Together with other team members, you will study and design the development and implementation of a reflexive and transformative monitoring and learning infrastructure for the Holomicrobiome initiative. Aim of this infrastructure is to foster integration, interaction and social learning between projects (in practice), their impacts, and the ambitions of the Holomicrobiome initiative as a whole.
Both postdoctoral researchers are expected to collaborate together and with a (growing) team at the Athena Institute.
We have two positions available. We seek to find a good match between candidates and the requirements of the positions. Please indicate in your application if one position has your preference.
